July 22, 2012 Ohio fly-in now scheduled

Mark your calendar. We will be lunching together at Fat Boyz Pizzeria (more than just pizza) and then going a few steps to the Waco Museum to tour and have a meeting.

Waco Museum is near Troy, OH somewhat south of Don and Sally Apple's.

For now, mark your calendar. I know it is during the IFF convention but for those of us unable to go, this will be the supplement.

ALSO, Bob Lyme will be sporting a new hip after his June 8 surgery. He will have to miss the MI/OH convention but will be leading the pack at the Waco Museum. Come watch him walk without pain.

I know some of you are going to the IFF convention but decided to send this to you so you can keep up to speed with us! :)

hugs, Mary G

OFF President’s Report

March, 25 2012

 Hello again from south Florida:

March 17th Janice and I attended the last FFF meeting for the season at the Crossroads restaurant in Venice Fl. With 46 members and 1 guest present. Attendance was good at all the monthly meetings [Nov. - March.]

The second weekend of May is Mother’s Day; the 3rd weekend is IFF WOY Joyce Rust Day. The last weekend of May is Illinois President Karen Bradd and Queen Delores Green Day. That left the first weekend for us to have our fly-in.

Our joint Ohio/Michigan annual convention will be at Adrian Michigan, June 22 -24th at the Carlton Lodge, 1629 West Maumee St., phone 517-263-7000, room rate is $95 + tax.. Registration is $75 per person, send to Duane Dysinger, 1307 Ellsworth Rd., Perry Michigan, 48872.

Mary Gruber is getting the Region 3 Tour wrapped up and reminds everyone that the motel reservation must be made before May 1st. The Holiday Express, 419-238-2600, $95 plus tax, would only hold the block of rooms until then because the week of the tour is a big festival that will take all available rooms.

Hope to see several at the May 6th fly-in. The manager asked me to give him an expected head count by April 29th so if you can attend please call or email me by then.  [He will block off an area for us] If you don’t notify me and can come we will make it work.

It is with great sadness that I have to report on the death of two longtime members.  John Leis and John Lane passed on in March.  A memorial service is planned for John Lane on April 15.  More details will be posted on the internet as soon as possible.

Till next time, GOD BLESS YOU and GOD BLESS AMERICA

Region 3 Report - Bob Lyme

May 15, 2012

This spring was a lot different weather for the farmers in this area than the past two.  Most of the corn and soybeans are planted on this date verses last year when most was planted June 5th thru June 10th.  We still had very good yields last year due to good temperatures and rainfall.

It took us four days to get home from Okeechobee Fl..  After visiting a niece near Charlotte N.C. and a day touring NASCAR race shops in the Concord/Kannapolis N.C. area we got  home May 1st.  Then it was catch up time to see doctors, which resulted in a June 8th scheduled left hip replacement for me and cataract surgery June 28th, also for me. Instead of just a tune up it seems I need some parts replaced.  Before church Mother’s day morning we were surprised to get a phone call from our son Don from Afghanistan. Janice could not have received a nicer gift. He went there the middle of February.

     Some upcoming region events are:

1. IFF WOY Joyce Rust’s Day - May 20th

2  Ill. President Karen Bradd and Ill. Queen Dolores Green Day’s - May 26th.

3. IFF Convention  - July 18 -21

4. Michigan/Ohio annual convention - June 22-24

5. Region 3 tour -Van Wert Ohio - Aug 10-12   -  Contact - Mary Gruber

Take care, and til next time GOD BLESS YOU and GOD BLESS AMERICA

                                                                               Bob Lyme

Who wants to have a fly-in this coming season?

October is open!

Region III Tour – August 10, 11, 12, 2012 – Van Wert, Ohio

NOTE DATE

Join us for a grand weekend in NW Ohio. Registration is only $45 per person until July 15 when it goes to $50 per person until August 5, our cut-off date. That includes TWO lunches, TWO evening dinners, TWO breakfasts and all tours. It's like the 1950s all over again!

FRIDAY: Arrive Holiday Inn Express (419-238-2600) by noon for lunch at motel. 1 pm board busses for tour of Antique Fire Equipment Museum and then a Mystery Tour that will interest everyone.

FRIDAY evening: Dinner at Black Swamp Bistro at 5:15, followed by music in Fountain Park at 7 (bring your own chairs). The music is by a group of musicians called the Brass Transit. Vocals will be reminiscent of Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole, Frankie Valli, and others. Should be terrific! Outdoors. Back to hotel about 9 pm.

SATURDAY: Breakfast is included in cost of room. 9:30 into hospitality room for power point presentation of a wind turbine farm. Then onto busses to go to an actual wind turbine farm. OFF member Glenn McClure, who lives in the area, has such a farm but whether we will go to his farm is unknown at this time. Lunch will be at Mulligan's Pub and Bistro, recently opened at a golf club.

SATURDAY afternoon: Because this is a huge weekend in VanWert you will have the afternoon free. We will have a list of what you might want to do but if you look on the internet, you'll see that Routes 127 and the Lincoln Highway (Route 30) cross in VanWert and each of the highways will be having garage sales. I know, I don't need one more thing – well maybe just one more thing. The town is quaint.

SATURDAY evening: Dinner at the Hotel Marsh. Punch, cheese, crackers at 6 followed by a sit-down dinner at 6:30. About 7:30 Mr. Larry Webb will tell us the story of the Lincoln Highway.

SUNDAY morning: Breakfast and a short gathering to give thanks.

Nitty Gritty:

On the shelf? Get your MOTEL reservations in yet today, please. Only 9 have done so. I have 20 rooms reserved until MAY 1. That was the deadline given by the motel manager, no budging. Call: 419-238-2600 and say you are with the Ohio Flying Farmers, $94 per night + tax. The rooms are quite nice. Share a room (preferably with someone you know) and cut the price by 50%!

Directions and all of that will be sent in July. For now, you must get your motel reservation made, please! We promise you will get your money's worth and then some!

Hop to it! Mary Gruber – questions? amgruber8888@gmail.com or (740) 244-5599
